Build a stable convention
The goal is to make variants easy to recognize and keep the same naming logic as the catalog grows. MerchQuill normalizes your labels into compact ASCII-safe segments and preserves a stable field order.
A prefix, category, product label, color, size, and optional variant can all be useful, but not every catalog needs every segment. Leave unnecessary fields empty instead of padding the SKU with meaningless codes.
