How POD profit is calculated
Start with your selling price. MerchQuill subtracts the base product, printing, shipping, other fixed per-sale fees, and percentage fees calculated from the selling price.

Understand the result
The calculator is designed for a single sale. It gives you a clean contribution-style view of the costs you enter, not an accounting statement or a promise of business profitability.
Start with your selling price. MerchQuill subtracts the base product, printing, shipping, other fixed per-sale fees, and percentage fees calculated from the selling price.
If a marketplace takes a percentage of the selling price, increasing the selling price also increases that fee. Break-even therefore needs to account for the fee rate rather than simply adding a fixed fee amount.
Taxes, refunds, ad spend, subscriptions, labor, and overhead are not included unless you intentionally fold them into one of your per-sale cost fields.
There is no universal margin that is healthy for every store. Product category, customer acquisition costs, return rates, taxes, discounts, and operating overhead all change the answer. Use this calculator to understand your own unit economics instead of treating a generic benchmark as a guarantee.
FAQ
Net profit is the selling price minus product, printing, shipping, fixed per-sale costs, and percentage-based marketplace or payment fees.
MerchQuill divides fixed per-sale costs by the portion of revenue left after percentage fees. This avoids treating a percentage fee like a fixed amount.
